Northbridge hairdresser Brie Peters has been a bridesmaid 18 times in her 35 years, and when she got married had 14 bridesmaids of her own — holding the hands of 10 little flower girls.

Three of her bridesmaids were called Katie. Seven of them she has known for more than 20 years, two she loved for 30 years and six she has known for up to 15 years. She’s even been a bridesmaid for two of them twice, in their second weddings after divorce.

“I love it — I love weddings and how happy they make people,” Ms Peters told news.com.au

“I think I am the girl everyone can rely on and make the day tick by.

“I value my friends so much and they mean so much to me that to be a bridesmaid for them, and them for me, means so much because we know how lucky we are to share or lives together.

“And even if we can’t catch up that much, they are all a phone call away — we make an agreement that we must talk at least once every two weeks — it’s pretty cool.”

When Ms Peters married the love of her life Morgan Clingan, she had 14 bridesmaids of her own, asking friends who had shared major milestones in her life — people who were there when it mattered most.

Her husband had five friends stand by his side, including his two sisters.

“It was either have no one or have everyone — and I chose the option two,” she laughed.

“I would do it all over again the same.

“These girls made my day and it would not of been as special without them there to witness it and hold my hand.

“It’s crazy when you think of the years you have known these women and what you have witnessed in each other’s lives and shared.

“Their families and yours, siblings, boyfriends, girlfriends, studying, careers, children, marriages, step children — gosh there is so much that goes on that I have had the privilege of being part of and sharing with them.”

And bridezilla moments, she says, come with the territory.

“Every bride is a bridezilla!” she said.

“I have not come across one yet who hasn’t put her foot down about something that the family or friends think is silly.

“A bridesmaid always says yes, can I get you anything, what do you need and okay — even if they don’t mean it!

“I had one girlfriend who didn’t want to get married and had a melt down and I had to talk her into it, and they are still happily married with three kids.

“One had a dress that ripped and we had to fix it.

“Another was so nervous she go so drunk and we had to try and sober he up — that was quite funny.

“I’ve even had one girl faint on me.

“There have been so many moments — I wouldn’t change it for anything.”

Ms Peters, who runs Glamour Puss Events, has always been involved in the wedding industry as a hairdresser, make up artist and event co-ordinator. Her mum, also a hairdresser, and mother-in-law, who owns a bridal store, have also been in the industry for 35 years.

“It’s funny that weddings bring you closer as I have done it so much, clients and friends come to me asking their advice and friendships grow from there,” she said.

“Some girls I have been their hairdresser for a good 10 years before they get engaged and I am one of the first they call!

“We have so much fun planning and organising.”

She’s never chosen her own dress (as a bridesmaid) and doesn’t mind one bit — but that doesn’t mean she has a wardrobe filled with dresses she only wears once.

“I actually have the last couple of dresses but to tell you the truth the dresses get trashed when you wear them for over 12 hours walking through mud, bush, grass and gravel to walking up the sides of bridges in extreme heat or freezing cold!” she said.

“I really don’t mind what I wear — and when there is a bride no one looks at anyone else.

“My favourite dresses are long, black and strapless as it hides all my scary bits and I feel pretty in them — but I suppose fashion is in the eye of the beholder. I want them (the brides) to choose what makes them happy.”Read more at:http://www.marieprom.co.uk/prom-dresses-2016-2017 | http://www.marieprom.co.uk/graduation-gowns
